History
In 1921, three Trojans desired to create an organization that would uphold the traditions of the University of Southern California – an organization that would dedicate itself to the University and its future. These Trojans, Harry Pryor, Harry Kennedy and Lindley Bothwell, would soon become the founders of the Trojan Knights. Since its foundation, each member has striven to embody the five attributes of the ideal Trojan: Faithful, Scholarly, Skillful, Courageous and Ambitious. The Trojan Knights have planned and established some of the most important events in the history of USC and guarded its most cherished traditions. Today, some of our responsibilities include:

1921
Trojan Knights is founded by Yell Leaders Lindley Bothwell, Harry Pryor, and Harry Kennedy.
1922
Trojan Knights organize the first successful card stunt at the football game in university history
1928
The Trojan Knights Bench is built next to Bovard Auditorium and becomes a campus gathering spot for Knights.
1935
Trojan Knights host President Roosevelt on his visit to the university to receive an honorary degree.
1941
Six Trojan Knights successfully steal the Victory Bell from UCLA’s campus, laying the foundation of one of college football’s greatest traditions.
1943
Trojan Knights begin camping outside Tommy Trojan during Troy Week to protect against vandalism and pranks from UCLA students.
1947
George Tirebiter is elected the first mascot of USC and Knights are charged with keeping him.
1948
Trojan Knight Otis Healy founds Troy Camp, one of the oldest and most notable philanthropy organizations on USC’s campus.
1960
Trojan Knights invite and host future U.S. presidents Kennedy and Nixon to speak on campus during their presidential campaigns.
1961
Traveler becomes the official university mascot thanks to the advocacy of Trojan Knight Ed Tannenbaum.
1980
Trojan Knights founder Lindley Bothwell returns to campus and is recognized at a football game in the Coliseum for his achievements.
1981
Trojan Knight Ron Orr founds Swim with Mike, an annual swimming charity event for physically challenged athletes.
1990
Trojan Knights Alumni Association is created on the organization’s 69th anniversary.
2001
Trojan Knights begin to paint themselves at home football games and gain national recognition.
2021
Trojan Knights celebrates its one hundred years of service and impact on the university.
