On the Process
The New Member process is the unique experience of joining Trojan Knights. During a new member’s first semester in the organization, they will be tasked with demonstrating a strong commitment to the organization and the University of Southern California before becoming full-fledged Trojan Knights.
This process is intended to be fun yet demanding. First, new members will be expected to learn a variety of information about the history of the university and the Trojan Knights. New members will also be expected to attend several brotherhood, service, and spirit events throughout the semester. These are designed to help you bond with your new member class and develop strong ties to the university itself. While every single event is fun and rewarding, they do take time. As a result, we expect strong commitment from new members.
After a full semester through which a new member has achieved the goals outlined for them, they will become voting members of Trojan Knights.
On Diversity & Inclusion
The Trojan Knights are committed to diversity and inclusion. As an organization dedicated to preserving and recording the history of the University of Southern California, it is our responsibility to be fully honest and confront every aspect of that history — including that of our own organization. Both USC and the Trojan Knights have long histories, and with these long histories come legacies of discrimination. The Trojan Knights recognize that it is crucial that we assess and address organizational bias, both in the past and now.
To pursue meaningful change, the Trojan Knights are taking tangible steps to make our organization more equitable and inclusive. We have substantially restructured our interview and deliberation process, addressing the potential for implicit bias. We have organizational meetings dedicated to anti-bias trainings and sexual violence prevention workshops. We are working to better welcome members of any gender identity.
To prospective new members, all we can say is “apply.” No matter who you are, we would love to meet you.
Best,
Royce Smith; Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Director
